Personal Comments: Born in Middlesborough and moved to Newcastle when I was 5. Been living there for 22 years then moved down to Hull 4.5 years ago. I was diagnosed T1 during my final year at university in hull and up until 3 months ago believed I was superhuman and could eat and drink what I liked and do as little as possible. Thanks to the onset of background retinopathy I am currently well into a new style of care and attention and wishing I'd been a better diabetic from day one. Oddly enough I have never wished to not be diabetic. Had I not been Dx'd with this I'd have been dead by the age of 40 from either drink or soft drugs or both. Whether I can still get to 40 with all of me intact will be down to some skill, rather more good luck and a definite thank you to online communities such as this one.
